Berry Cranberry Sauce

I made this for a dinner party and I had a hard time not eating it all before then. It's seriously good. Enjoy, and have a great Thanksgiving!

Berry Cranberry Sauce

1 bag frozen cranberries
1 bag frozen mixed berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries)
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1/4 cup brown sugar
2-3 bay leaves
orange zest (about 1/2 tsp)
juice from half of an orange
1/3 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/2 tsp each of:
cinnamon
nutmeg
cloves
ginger

In a large saucepan, boil a bit less than 2 cups of water. Add cranberries, syrup, sugar, bay leaves, orange zest and orange juice and simmer for about 10 min. Remove bay leaves. Mix in apple sauce, spices and other berries, and simmer for another 10 min, or until able to mash fruit together. Let cool and serve.

  1. I don't really like the tastes of cranberry sauce and turkey mingled, so I don't usually have cranberry sauce at all. So I don't know if this was good with the turkey - but it was definitely yummy on it's own. It would be really good on top of cheesecake, or put into a tart or something.
